Jo Hikk was present in Toronto today at the Gibson Lounge on King Street for the 2008 CCMA Award Nominee's.

Successful Rescue 100 Event


On Saturday, May 31, 2008, The Desperate Horse Wives of Crossfield, Alberta unveiled their most ambitious project to date, a fundraising auction and concert at Pete Knight Memorial to raise money to help care for the remaining 40 or so horses that Rescue 100 is striving to bring back to health. The evening kicked off to a sold out crowd of over 600 people at 7:00 pm with Cory Noel from CKLJ 96.5 Olds radio as the event MC. With over 180 items in the Silent Auction, people immediately started rivaling for what they wanted to take home. It soon became obvious they planned on spending money for this great cause when items like a "Flex Tree Saddle" hit $2,000.00, a pair of "Judds Tickets" complete with Limo service and Hotel Accommodations peaked at $1,800.00.

Jo Hikk took to the stage and rocked the house for 2 hours covering  the songs from their new "Ride" album and their first album "Jo Hikk". With the crowd cheering them on for "one more", Jo Hikk ended the evening with an encore performance of "Sweet Home Alabama" with Kelly Sitter and Mark Lorenz sharing vocals.

The Desperate Horse Wives sends many thanks to Cory Noel from CKLZ 96.5, OleSnow Sound & Production, all the volunteers, the generous sponsors, those that donated items for the "Silent Auction" and everyone that came out to support this event!

Special thanks Jo Hikk, Mark Lorenz and Jessica Ridley. These artists are definitely some of Canada's finest!

Through this event "The Desperate Horse Wives" raised over $35,000.00 to give to the "Rescue 100 Foundation". We couldn't have done this without all of you!

Jo Hikk in "What’s on Winnipeg"


..You might recognize the name Jo Hikk from last year's CCMAs, where the Calgary-based country-rock quartet, led by brothers Kelly and Kenny Sitter, was nominated for the Chevy Rising Star Award.

Ride proves the nomination was deserved.

Falling somewhere between the mainstream appeal of Rascal Flatts and the outlaw edginess of Montgomery Gentry, Jo Hikk has recorded an excellent rockin' country album that features solid songs, impressive playing and impeccable production by George Canyon and Rick Mizzoni. Canyon also co-wrote one of the disc's standout tracks, My Kind of Radio with Gordie Sampson. Jo Hikk can lay claim to being the second Canadian act (House of Doc was the first) this year to successfully put its own stamp on The Stampeders' classic Sweet City Woman. The band does not write much of its own material, but then again, just because you don't forge the nails doesn't mean you're a bad carpenter.

Ride easily enters Jo Hikk into the same league as Doc Walker, Emerson Drive and The Roadhammers.

The Calgary based band who found themselves nominated for the Chevy Trucks Rising Star Award at the 2007 CCMA awards in Regina, now find themselves rising up the charts with Closer, the first release from their new CD titled Ride. The track has been picking up a lot of momentum over the past 8 weeks in key markets such as Ontario, Manitoba and particularly Alberta. Closer hit the 1 spot at CFCW 790 in Edmonton on Jan 1st and has now entered several other Top 20 and Top 10 mediabase play-lists in Alberta and Ontario including CKRA the Big Earl FM, CFCW and CISN FM in Edmonton, CKDQ am and CKRY 105 FM in Calgary, as well as KICX FM – Midland, CIKZ FM Waterloo & CKXC – Kingston to name a few.. JO HIKK on CITY TV with Ralph Klein 

Jo Hikk was honored to be featured on City TV - BT across Canada on December 28, 2007 with the their old friend the Honourable Ralph Klein, Alberta's past Premier and past Mayor of Calgary.

Ralph hosted the show and reminised with Jo Hikk about the "good old days" at the St. Louis Hotel in Calgary where he first met the band. He talked about politics, music, Chinese Food, and the great Chicken at the St Louis Hotel.

Jo Hikk performed live, "My Kinda Radio" written by Gordie Sampson & George Canyon and "Suck It Up" written by Sean Hogan songs from their new upcoming CD "Ride" which is due in stores March 2008.

100,000 HITS ON MYSPACE!!

Thanks to each and every one of you for visiting our site everyday and playing our song on your site. By doing this you keep us in the Top 10 in Country and Southern Rock category in Canada. Please continue to help us stay there! We all sincerely appreciate your help!

To some people hitting the 100,000 mark on MySpace views may not seem like a big deal but to Jo Hikk, it's a HUGE deal!!

We started our site on September 1, 2006 and didn't have a clue what we were doing. We didn't even know how to post a comment. Through the help of our great friend Mychela, she told us how to "ADD" friends.

Fortunately for us, we just happened to "ADD" the right people!

KATHY from "I Love Country Music" presented us with our first "BANNER" and sent out a bulletin to all her friends telling them to check us out. Our friends list starting growing and to this day she continues to support, and bring friends to our site. Kathy also runs our "Reverbnation" site for us....HUGE THANK YOU'S KATHY FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE AND DO!

Shortly after, Jo Hikk had the good fortune of meeting another lady named FLOSSIE. She was also fairly new to MySpace but immediately asked if she could set up a Fanclub for us. Flossie worked day and night adding friends to the Fansite and downloaded every "BANNER MAKER" program she could find, some came complete with a virus! She set out on the hunt for new friends and started helping us within our site, sending out Thank You's, Good Mornings, Happy Birthdays, Merry Christmas and every other special event day! FLOSSIE, YOUR A GEM, WE KNOW HOW HARD YOU'VE WORKED ON BOTH THE FANSITE AND OUR MYSPACE. WE CAN NEVER THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THE COUNTLESS HOURS YOU'VE PUT INTO US!!

Then there's our wonderful friend DANA we had the great fortune of meeting on MySpace. Dana runs our Facebook and brings friends from all over to our Facebook and our MySpace. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH DANA!!

This was a great day for Jo Hikk!! We hit 100,000 hits on our MySpace in 14 months!! We can't thank all our MySpace friends enough for getting us there. Through playing our songs on your sites and your daily visits to our site, you all helped us accomplish this number in a short period of time! 

Then in the afternoon we get a call from our Manager, Rick Mizzoni and he informs us that our "RIDE" CD has arrived!!  Almost 2 years in the making, we're finding it hard to believe that it's really here!!!
